EAGLES LAND AT MOUNT R S A

The "Tribute to the Eagles" show will be performed at the Mt RSA next month on 25th September 2010.

This is a great show and one of the top bands from the 70's era, in fact the 1971 - 1975 was the biggest selling album of all time, with iconic songs such as "Motel California" , "Take it Easy", Desperado" etc.

All these nostalgic songs will certainly make for a fantastic night, and by the way  their 2007 release, Long Road Out Of Eden was their first new studio album since 1979.

They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001.

Tickets are on sale now at the office (575 4477) so there is no excuse to miss this once only show.

Casualties of Asbestos

Colin Hare the Veteran Liason for the Mesothelioma Center (Asbestos.com); an organization devoted to assisting veterans through their application processes for VA benefits, kindly made us aware of countless veterans that are currently suffering from exposure to asbestos, a material that was commonly used in hundreds of military applications, products, and ships because of its resistance to fire.

The Mesothelioma Center provides a complete list of occupations, ships, and shipyards that could have put our Veterans at risk for developing asbestos-related diseases. Countless veterans were exposed to asbestos during their military service, potentially causing life threatening illnesses. In addition, they have thousands of articles regarding asbestos and mesothelioma and they have even created a veterans-specific section on their website in order to help inform about the dangers of asbestos exposure.

THE  N.Z.R.S.A. NATIONAL  SNOOKER  PAIRS  TOURNAMENT  COMES  HOME

It was a busy weekend for the Mount RSA on Queen’s Birthday weekend, Saturday June 5th and Sunday 6th, 2010, starting at 8.00am Saturday Morning with 36 pairs playing off to qualify for the main event. Only 16 teams made it to the main event that was to be played on the Sunday, those missing out on the first round went into the Flite.

The other 20 teams also played on Sunday for the Plate and Consolation Plate and the day finished at 5.30 pm on the Sunday with presentations following.

A great weekend for all snooker players and those supporters that watched, it was especially appreciated because of the bad weather. A special thank to Arthur King and his wife Dianne for their dedication in running the tournament during the two days. Also a Big thank you to the organising committee: Ian Kennedy, Lloyd Downs, Bill Payne, Terry Smith and Arthur King on a great tournament.

Thanks also to all our Sponsors without whom the tournament would not be possible.

                   ANZAC DAY 2010

The weather was warm for the Dawn Parade this year and was appreciated by a crowd of around 4500 with many of our younger generations attending. All the services were represented, including the Cadets who do such a great job at both services, the Police Force and their dogs, making this a very special day for everyone.

The Civic Service was attended by around 2500, it was pleasing to see the many school children and their organisations at the service. The Oriana Singers were accompanied by the Salvation Army Band and are always appreciated by the RSA and the public.

There was a welcome from the MP Simon Bridges and the Deputy Mayor David Stewart.                                  The speakers for the service were Hannah Brewer (Head Girl Mt College) and Sam Hughes (Head Boy Mt College).
