Mount Maunganui RSA Win  RNZRSA National Pairs Snooker Tournament

Over the Queens Birthday weekend several pairs teams competed in the New Zealand Returned Services Pairs Snooker Tournament held in the Hamilton RSA clubrooms

Although most teams qualified when it came to the final there was only one Mount Maunganui RSA team left this was the team of Father Chris Beedle and his Son Rogan Beedle

They played last years champions  Tony VanWyk and Glen Crowther Tony and glen have won this tournament on previous occasions and were expected to be competitive in the final once again

After losing the first frame Chris and Rogan fought back to win close fought match finally overcoming the pair three to one

Rogan also received the trophy for the highest break in section play on the Saturday of the tournament

Our congratulations go to the pair for this achievement one that the Mount Maunganui RSA and the Mount Maunganui RSA Snooker section are proud of.

EIGHT BALL CLUB


On Sunday 05 May, the 8 Ball Club held their Ladies and Men’s singles’ Championships.  

The first photo below shows, left to right Sybil Bonniface (Women’s Runner Up), Jim Downey (Men’s Winner),   Richie Crouchman (Men’s Runner Up) The Winner of the Ladies Singles was Miriel Musgrave.

 The next photo shows the 8 Ball Club Members having an enjoyable time .

The next event will be the Women’s Singles on June 9th and on June 23rd there will be a trip to Katikati.

Make a note in your diary on August 21st  for the 8 Ball AGM.

MOUNT MAUNGANUI MASTERS TOURNAMENT

The Mount Maunganui RSA hosted the inaugural New Zealand Masters & Billiards Association Singles Snooker tournament over the weekend of the 17th to the 19th of May

 The tournament was a huge success and enjoyed by all with comments from all participants as to the great venue, atmosphere and camaraderie

 With the backing of the RSA the organizing committee were able to project the Mount RSA as a helpful and friendly club boasting all the necessary facilities for everyone’s convenience and enjoyment

 The winner of the Main tournament was Barry Kidd from Tauranga with Arthur King from the Mount Maunganui RSA as runner up.

 The other tournaments held within this set up were the Flight tournament won by Bob Perkinson from Whakatane the Plate tournament won by Tony Murphy from Gisborne and the Consolation Plate won by Noel Frank from Tauranga

 With a larger than normal field (60 instead of 48) the time frame was stretched out to 7am starts each day with play continuing on till late evening on both Friday and Saturday which allowed the tournament to finish on time at 7.30 on Sunday evening, although the time frame was stretched to suit the larger than normal field all player enjoyed the challenge and look forward to next year’s tournament to be played around the same dates

 Masters tournaments are open to ladies aged over 35 and men aged over 40 with this in mind several ladies participated and gave a great account of themselves with Tricia Seaver from Katikati reaching the quarter finals of the Main tournament and Mareike Hughes reaching the semi-final of the Plate event

 With the tournament concluded for this year we look forward to next year’s event

BROWNIES VISIT MOUNT RSA

The Mount RSA recently had a visit from the Papamoa Brownies this Year.

 Under the command of Brownie Leader Janet Reekie: D.C. Mt Coastal District, the delightful young Brownies were very interested in the history of the RSA and enjoyed the talk given by RSA President Paul Franks.

 After being given a tour of the Clubrooms by the President Paul Franks, which also included the Wall of remembrance, the Brownies presented the RSA with the artwork they had produced to commemorate ANZAC day.

 The RSA look forward to their return in the near future.

Crete vets 72nd memorial mt. maunganui rsa

On Sunday 19th of May the Mount RSA hosted the 72nd Commemoration Memorial Service, of the Battle of Crete, which took place in May 1941.

 Master of Ceremonies for the Event was Lieutenant Colonel Warren Banks, 6th Hauraki Regiment.

 Historian Paul London who is the Vice president of the NZ Battle of Crete Association welcomed Veterans, Members and Guests to the occasion.

 The Officiating Chaplin Pastor Ross Horton held a Sermon, and delivered the Benediction.

 Guest Speaker was CEO of the Royal New Zealand RSA Dr Stephen Clarke.

 The Ode ‘to the fallen’ was delivered by Mt RSA President Mr Paul Franks.

 The NZBOC Wreath was laid by Mr London with the assistance of Crete Veterans: Sgt Alan Robinson 6th Fwd. Ambulance,

Sgt Roy Tucker 20th Battalion  Division Signals, Driver Skin Wilson 24th Battalion Div. Ammo, Chief Petty Officer Owen Richards RNZN, L.Cpl. Malcolm Coglan 19th Battalion.

 Cadets from 16 Squadron Air training Corps, T.S. Chatham  Sea Cadet Unit and Western Bay of Plenty Cadet unit, were in attendance with their Officers.

 Band Members from the Tauranga Brass Brand Incorporated performed magnificently during the Service.

 Bugler Peter Cranson played the ’Last Post & Reveille’.

 Following the Service, Dancers from the Athena Greek Dance Group which included young Children, delightfully entertained everybody.

 Refreshments were then served by the Mt Maunganui RSA Women’s Section.

72 anniversary

MOTHERS DAY 2013

Mother’s day on Sunday 12th May was once again a really popular venue, at the Mount RSA this year.

The restaurant was busy with families and groups celebrating this Special Day.

Mothers enjoyed their lunch which was accompanied by a complimentary glass of wine and chocolates.  

 

Entertainment before and during lunch was provided by the band Tellstar, whilst those celebrating with an evening meal were entertained with music from the band Zone 2.

The next show at the Mt Maunganui RSA will be the “MERMAIDS DANCE BAND” who will be performing on Saturday 29th June 2013.

'The Mermaids' Dance Band are one of New Zealand's most established and esteemed musical line-ups, based in Auckland and delivering the perfect party repertoire since 2000, performing mostly high energy music.

 Featuring three glamorous female vocalists, including well known personality Joe Cotton, Pauline Berry and newest member Tammy "the voice" D'Ath.

The band performs a "super-fun" classic and current repertoire, from 1950's rock n roll to 2012 techno, 1970s disco to R & B. Specializing in music for the dance floor, featuring each singer in turn, all is wrapped up in great harmony and gorgeous costumes. The vocalists are accompanied by keyboardist Stuart Pearce.

This line-up has one of the best word-of-mouth reputations in New Zealand.
